Code Enforcement and Public Works Officer

The Village of South Barrington, Illinois, population 5,077, is a diverse home-rule municipality with a blend of residential communities and commercial areas located northwest of the City of Chicago. The Village is seeking an individual to serve as the Full-Time Code Enforcement and Public Works Officer.

This full-time position will be responsible to investigate property maintenance issues as well as building and zoning compliance, including documentation of violation occurrences and attendance at Administrative Hearings as needed. The position requires interaction with residents and contractors in a professional verbal and written form. This position will be in charge of certain public works projects such as planning and executing bids for the annual tree program (trimming, removal and planting) and reviewing the proposed annual road maintenance program with the Road Engineer. This position requires someone able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines, where no two days are the same.

The preferred candidate will have the ability to handle a lot at one time but complete every task with an articulate attention to detail, shall have at least five years of relevant experience in public works or project management, and be able to read basic blueprints. The candidate should possess the following characteristics and abilities: excellent organization skills, self-motivated, clear and concise verbal communication, able to write reports, memoranda, directives and letters, make logical decisions, establish effective working relationships with co-workers, and work outside in various environmental conditions.

The starting annual salary is $74,000+/- depending on qualifications. The Village offers an excellent benefit package including health, dental, and vision benefits, employer-paid life insurance, and retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Employees have the option to participate in a 457 deferred compensation plan. Paid vacation, personal days, and Village holidays are also provided. This position is classified as a non-union, exempt, full-time position.
