Understanding Metabolic Syndrome
Class Code: 3C36 "Metabolic syndrome" has become an increasingly common health concern in the United States. It's estimated that over 50 million Americans have Metabolic syndrome which is characterized by a group of metabolic risk factors in one person including abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure and insulin resistance-among others. People with the metabolic syndrome are at increased risk of coronary heart disease and other related diseases like stroke, peripheral vascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Michael Fortsas, M.D. from Palatine Heart Center, will discuss what this syndrome is and how to prevent it.
