Learn about Microboards: ~What a microboard is and is not ~An overview of the process used to help individuals and their families create microboards ~Examples of microboard success stories Cooperatives: ~ What a cooperative is ~ What it means to be a member of a cooperative ~ What other cooperatives are doing ~ The proven steps to set up a cooperative ~ How governing your own company gives you choice and power over services and your life. PATH: Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope By setting up a microboard (small Board of Directors) or cooperative for your family member\, you can have greater control over funding\, care and management of services. These include among others: day programming\, therapies\, supported employment\, housing and transportation. Featured Speaker Teri Steinberg is the Chicago Regional Organizer for the Illinois Association of Microboards and Cooperatives since 2007. Through a grant from the Illinois Council of Developmental Disabilities\, she develops and trains Microboards and Human Services Cooperatives\, keeping with the principles of self-determination\, power over their choices\, and responsibility to make decisions and have control in receiving and directing their services\, asserting their rights\, and living an inclusive life of their choice\, in their communities. Teri is the Vice President of the Steinberg Microboard\, Inc. Previously\, Teri was a Community Partner with the Illinois Autism Training & Technical Assistance Project\, through a grant from ISBE\, Illinois School Board of Education\, supporting families and children with Autism Spectrum Disorders\, through family-centered planning and assessment processes.
